Name That House! (2)

Posted on Tuesday 22 May 2007

Another possible name for this house, taken from Norse mythology: “Tyrheim.”

Tyr was the Norse god who, in order to save all of Asgard and Midgard, offered to put his right hand into the mouth of Fenrir the Destroyer, so that Fenrir would submit to the magic silken ribbon which alone would restrain him until Ragnarok.  When Fenrir realized he had been tricked, he bit down on Tyr’s right hand and tore it off. Tyr suffered the loss nobly, knowing it had been necessary for the good of others.

So Tyrheim might mean, allegorically, “The home of those who brave destruction to save others” or “The home of those who suffer greatly so that others may live long lives in peace”.
