Inner Fire

Posted on Monday 25 June 2007

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”

It is embarrassing how close I have come to despair over the past several weeks. It’s not something I can discuss aloud yet, but my inner fire has guttered and died a couple of times during all this.

So I am indeed thankful for “those people who rekindle the inner spirit”. Amazingly, I was surrounded by a bunch of them for the week of June 7-14, during a 9-unit “intensive block” at Hope International University. Equally amazingly, two other small groups of them welcomed us into their homes “for a couple of hours” recently, and each time we ended up staying late into the night.

You all know who you are.

And, gratefully, I also know who you are.

Thanks, more thanks than I can say.

I look forward to future interaction with each of you, whether in person or online, even when my inner fire is back to full roar. Perhaps I can rekindle you in turn, someday!
