Jamestown, King James Version… LeBron James?

Posted on Wednesday 12 September 2007

An actual conversation from the Nelson dinner table, as we quiz our kids on American geography (yes, we have odd ideas of fun!):

“What’s the oldest continuously inhabited English settlement in America?”

[much guessing, all wrong, some ridiculous, finally we relent and give the answer]

“Jamestown, named after the guy who paid to have the Bible translated into English.”

“Who?”

“King James, you nut. The King of England.”

“Of England? I always thought of King James as a Black guy.”
